5 1. Introduction a. Document Conventions The following document conventions are used throughout this manual: 1. Values shown on the display will be indicated in bold and italics. CC-r with uppercase and lowercase letters used to simulate the original display; 2. Keyboard keys will be shown using , , and SELECT symbols in bold; 3. The menu items will be represented by a report displayed on the controller display. First, the manual will introduce the concepts needed to configure a standard actuator. Other sections will detail controller tuning for actuators that require special settings. B. Installation Notes Note 1: Note 2: Note 3: The following instructions assume that the EASC DC board is installed in the actuator and that all safety, installation and start-up instructions are specified in the appropriate RCS installation and instruction manuals and ANDCO . Make sure the actuator is in the correct operating position before attempting to calibrate the EASC DC board. Install the potentiometer shaft, except steps 2.d and 2.e. When calibrating the controller, the actuator will not move during setup. Quick Installation Instructions Suitable for: 4-20 MADC, 1-5 Vdc, 0-10 Vdc or 2-10 Vdc Output Signal Requirements 4-20 MADC, 1-5 Vdc, 0-10 Vdc or 2-10 Vdc Signal loss input: Actuator does not move, last position failed. The system fails in the minimum signal condition for a zero input signal configuration. For all other options, see Sections 4-7 of this manual. The terms clockwise and counterclockwise refer to the direction of rotation of the actuator output shaft, for rotary actuators, viewed from the top of the actuator. For linear actuators, extension, the stem moves away from the actuator body, and retraction, the stem moves into the actuator body, refers to the direction of movement of the extension stem. The DC EASC is always connected as shown in Figure 1. See Figure 1 for a description of the status lamp. Output rotation, for rotary actuators, or motion direction extension rod for linear actuators, is changed using step 2.c. ç. Four keys are used to select the main function system menu. The following table describes each key: Go back one menu level and not save a value Move UP in a menu or increase a value Move down in a menu or decrease a value Select a menu item or save a value When in a menu If it works, there is no need to go back to the highest level among the defined parameters. The parameter value is saved in non-volatile memory when the SELECT key is pressed. 3 Jrl 415 Chain Sprocket 1.5

7 2. Quick Installation Instructions a. To set the analog input type: 1. Use the or keys until is displayed, then press the SELECT key. 2. Press the or key until the desired input signal type, 1-5 Vdc, 0-10 Vdc, 2-10 Vdc, 4-20 madc appears. 3. Press the SELECT key to save the selection. B. To set the analog output type: 1. Use the or keys until out is displayed, then press the SELECT key. 2. Press the or key until Output Signal Type, 1-5 Vdc, 0-10 Vdc, 2-10 Vdc, 4-20 madc is displayed. 3. Press the SELECT key to save the selection. ç. Output Shaft Rotation Selection: 1. Press the or key until decay appears, then press the SELECT key. 2. Press or to select the desired travel direction to move the actuator to the highest signal position, CC-r (counterclockwise for rotary actuators or backward for linear actuators) or C-E (clockwise for rotary actuators or expand for linear actuators ) 3. Press the SELECT key to save the selection. d. Potentiometer Axis Positioning: 1. Press the or key until POT is displayed, then press the SELECT key. 2. The display will change to show the actual value of the potentiometer in internal divisions (0-1023) and the key or keys will now operate the actuator motor. 3. Operate actuator at approximately 50% of travel. Loosen the set screws that secure the potentiometer shaft. Rotate the shaft until the display shows approximately 510 divisions (50% of the potentiometer span). Tighten the adjustment screws. 4. To check the potentiometer and limit switch settings, press the key to electrically move the actuator. The value displayed in the LED array must move to a maximum of 1023 divisions. When the limit switch stops the actuator, verify that the switch setting is correct for the required travel. The displayed value will normally be 975 sections, but should not exceed 1000 sections. 5. Now press the key to move the actuator in the opposite direction of travel. The displayed value should decrease in value to a minimum value of zero. The display value will normally be 50 divisions, but should not be less than 20 divisions. The difference between the end-of-trip values must be at least 500 divisions. 6. Press SELECT key to exit potentiometer setup. E. Setting Motor Overload Current: 1. Press the or button until appears. 2. Press and hold the SELECT key for 10 seconds, until the display shows ACC. 3. Use the or keys until PROT appears, then press the SELECT key. 4. Use the or keys until hcur appears, then press the SELECT key. 5. Use the or keys to set the desired maximum load current, the current is displayed as 00.0 Amps. 6. Press the SELECT key to save the selection. 7. Use the or keys until tcur appears, then press the SELECT key. 8. Use the or keys to set the desired overcurrent suppression delay time, the time is displayed as 0.0 seconds. 9. Press the SELECT key to save the selection. 10. Press the key until the display appears inside. 5

8F. To calibrate the controller: 1. Press the or key until Cal is displayed, then press the SELECT key. 2. Press the or key until Yes is displayed and then press the SELECT key. 3. The auto calibration sequence will now begin. 4. To stop the calibration in progress, press the key. The calibration will be aborted and the previous calibration will be restored. The display will show the calibration steps, C 1 to C 11, being performed. If the calibration sequence fails, the display will show CF X, where X is the number of the failed calibration step. See Section 9 for a description of the calibration steps. Automatic calibration system. No calibration values are saved until the calibration sequence is normally completed. When the calibration is complete, the display will show Cal again. g Exit configuration mode: 1. Press the key until the display shows the actual position of the actuator and the actuator starts to follow the input command signal. 6

9 3. Reload Factory Default Settings The controller can restore all operating parameters to known values. Parameters must be reset under the following conditions: 1. The controller operates inconsistently or operates in an incorrect status; 2. The standard or advanced menu has been modified with unpredictable results; 3. The controller is replaced on a separate actuator. There are four factory default settings available. Each setting is accessed using one of the four keys on the keypad, as described in the table below: Key Analog Input/Output Calibration Delay 1-5 Vdc madc Vdc madc 20 To reload factory default settings: 1. Disconnect actuator from source power supply 2 ■ Hold down the desired key. 3. Restore power to the actuator. 4. The display will read: Fact, so do. 5. Release the key. the controller
