Fuel from the fuel lift pump is pumped through the secondary fuel filter (11) into the fuel rail and into the fuel injection pump body (5). The fuel pressure in the fuel tank is determined by the spring of the fuel feed pump. The fuel return line elbow has a vent hole running through it. A continuous vent hole (4) allows fuel to flow continuously through the fuel return line (3) back to the fuel tank (9). This helps keep the fuel cool and free of air. The single fuel injection pump receives fuel from the fuel rail and forces the fuel through the fuel lines (2) through the fuel injector (1) at high pressure. Each fuel injector has very small holes in its tip that convert the fuel flow into a very fine spray that gives good combustion of the fuel in the cylinder.
