The first part of our worksheet is about finding the y-intercept of a graph. To find the Y-intercept by looking at the graph, you need to see where your line intersects the Y-axis. If we want, we can go ahead and label our map. We know this is the y-axis and this is the x-axis. The y-axis is always the vertical axis and the x-axis is always the horizontal axis. What you’re looking for is where your line crosses the y-axis, you’re trying to find where your linear equation crosses the y-axis.

If you look at our first example here, the line crosses the y-axis right here. If y is equal to 1, then our y-intercept must be 1, and that is our solution.

Number 2 is similar to number 1 except that we have a graph and the equation of a line that crosses the graph. I went ahead and marked this is the y-axis and this is the x-axis. To find the y-intercept, you need to find where your line crosses the y-axis. In this example, our line goes through the origin of the y-axis here. Now, as it passes through the origin, the y-intercept is 0, and that’s our answer.

The second part deals with tables, finding the y-intercept. Now, when you look at a table, you’re looking for a way to find the y-intercept when X equals 0. In some tables, this is as simple as looking at the table and seeing x 0 and y . In our first example, looking directly at the table, we can see that our x value is given as zero, and we see that y is negative 26. If x is equal to zero, that means the y-intercept. The table will be negative 26 because we already know that whenever x is 0, y is negative 26.

However, sometimes they don’t give you x equals 0. To find the y-intercept we need to go back to where x equals 0. In this example, we need to fill the X column with 0. For that we need to work backwards . Every time we go up a row, we’re going to add one to X. Plus one, plus one, which means we’re going to subtract one from X as we go back. That gives us zero X. . Now we need to do the same for y because we want to find the value of Y when X is equal to zero. For Y you add five each time you go this way. Now we have to subtract five as we go backwards. As we go this way, we add five to go backwards and you will subtract five. Ten minus five minus five equals five. Now we know that X is equal to zero and Y is equal to five, so now we know that the y-intercept is 5.
