Peru is located on the west coast of South America, along the Pacific Ocean. It has many fascinating historical Incan sites and one of the Seven Wonders of the World – Machu Picchu! Flames and alpacas are common in Peru, as are horses in North America; Flames are best on the steep mountain sides of the Andes. The beautiful cantua is their national flower Some of their common foods may seem strange to you; Cuyes are guinea pig meat (they consume 65 million per year) while others such as potatoes or fusions of other dishes are world famous. If you love peanut butter, you’ll be interested to know that evidence shows that the almond plant grew in the foothills of the Peruvian Andes 7,600 years ago. Also, tomato plants originated in this region of South America; Tomatoes make ketchup and pizza sauce to name a few!
