Terracotta Paint Color Behr – Over the past few years, different shapes and shades of terracotta color have entered our homes. It seems I can’t get enough. So this year after painting the front door, painting the concrete porch, and painting the faux terra cotta pumpkins in various shades of my new favorite color, I thought it was time to share some of my favorite shades of terra cotta paint from different brands.
When I look at some of the samples, you might as well call them coral colors. Since terracotta pots are so popular right now, we’ll stick with terracotta colors anyway.

Right now, I’m totally in love with the terracotta hues paired with sage green and the wood tones that resonate in my home.
I think what I like most is that the terra cotta shades are warm, nude colors that range from blush, coral, pink, and actua to warm brick red and muted orange to taupe and burgundy. These warm, earthy tones can be incorporated into a variety of interior designs from traditional to contemporary.
When I painted the faux clay pottery and pumpkins, I could use the shade selection below and the projects would turn out beautiful.
I’ve decided to round up my favorite color palettes from all the major paint brands in case you also want to add this wonderful family of warm colors to your home.

Terracotta means “baked earth” in Italian, and if the terracotta is made of natural clay, it depends on the minerals in the earth that create the final color result after the clay has been fired. The more iron in the soil, the darker the shade in the finished terracotta pot. Iron reacts with oxygen and thus sets the tone for the baked clay.
The wide range of terracotta colors can range from deep orange with brown shades to peach, blush, coral and pink with gray and brown undertones. All of them are comfortable, rich, warm, earthy tones.
Sherwin Williams recently released their color of the year for 2023, Redend Point SW 9081. For me, it’s definitely a terracotta shade. If you’ve seen their inspirational photos, you’ll see what I mean. I love Redend Point’s painted kitchen cabinets. And I’m actually considering painting my pink dining room this dark shade of terracotta.

I haven’t really used Benjamin Moore paint because other paint brands are closer to my home and more convenient to buy. But if Benjamin Moore is your thing, you’ve come across some really cool terracotta tones.
My friend Jennifer from The Chronicles of Home just painted her Georgian brick living room and I’m in love. Check them out on Instagram.
I don’t use Farrow & Ball, although many other bloggers and stylists swear by this great brand. The reason is that the exorbitant price of this color is not in my budget. But if you don’t mind spending that extra cash, let me show you some of my beautiful terracotta shades.
Terracotta has gained increasing popularity again in interior design and fashion in recent years. I can attribute this to the fact that many people have been gardening and adding terracotta pots to their homes during the pandemic, but who knows.
This Is Behr’s 2021 Color Of The Year
Terracotta colors are very versatile and can be incorporated into both modern and traditional décor and I don’t see them going away anytime soon.
I painted our kitchen years ago in Valspar Lush Sage. When I recently came across a kitchen designed by Claire Brody, I was instantly obsessed because she gathered all of my current favorites in one beautiful room. Look down. Isn’t that terracotta floor paired with green cabinets? I also love the gold, silver, copper and wood tones he added.
Claire often uses terracotta colors and I love them. It even has a mud bedroom. Check out her Instagram!
Terracotta shades pair well with white, cream, pink, blush, rust and mustard tones, as well as green, blue and brown tones.

In our house, I used not only terracotta colors, but also different textures of terracotta colors.
I decided to use a clay pot as a container for my kitchen utensils. I’ve been obsessed with wooden spoons lately, if you couldn’t tell.
On a side note, I did a dish rack behind the stove, but that’s a blog post for another day.
When I painted our concrete checkerboard this year, I wanted the darker squares to look like light terracotta tiles, and I think I succeeded. The color used is Tan PFC-23 from Behr.

I also mentioned the 2013 Pumpkin Chalks which you can see below and they are also in a saturated shade of terracotta.
A variety of DIY clay Christmas ornaments have been popping up in seasonal decor over the past few years and I still absolutely love them.
Behr Auburn Glaze S180-5 has been used on my front door. It’s a more earthy shade than the lighter versions I have at home. This is a great color for the front door.
I still need to paint my door. I’ve been very busy and the weather hasn’t cooperated. Maybe we should wait until spring. I love the color of Auburn Glaze with the stone porch wall.

And because the glass casts such a reflection, I want to show you the door where the storm door is open. As you can see, I left the storm door green on the other side. I did it on purpose and because I was too lazy 😉
Below, you can see the terra cotta checkerboard tiles in our kids’ bathroom. The wall is the same color I used painted terracotta pumpkins, painted plastic ornaments and terracotta pottery. I mixed it in with some rustic oak. In fact, the wall color looks a little darker. The sun must have shone on the photo.
I used clay colored macrame yarn for the macrame heart and the same yarn for the main ring.
And that’s it. I think this post proves how much I love these warm natural colors. Do you have clay in your house? Or are you going to incorporate it into your interior design? Experts Reveal The Best Paint Colors To Splash Up Your Kitchen Or Bath
Behr’s color of the year for 2021 is Canyon Dusk, an earthy terra cotta. It exudes the warmth and comfort we all need these days.
Mia is an editor at The Spruce. She previously covered home design and luxury lifestyle as an editorial intern for Unique Homes magazine.
Behr Paint just announced its 2021 Color of the Year, a shade that delivers on something we can use this year: comfort. Canyon Dusk, an earthy terra cotta, is a colorful, nature-inspired road that aims to embody the safety and stability we hope to see in 2021.
“There’s something so heartening about twilight, the moment after sunset, that heralds a new day,” says Erika Woelfel, vice president of color and creative services at Behr. “Bright and soulless, Canyon Dusk is a color that can be found in a variety of places, from stunning desert landscapes to the color of sunny terracotta. Wherever it is found, we share a common need for these moments of comfort and inspiration for the days ahead.”

We couldn’t agree more. Using this shade in your home is sure to create a warm atmosphere, as the light brown color is reminiscent of clay-colored soil and the rough earth’s connection to the earth. With that in mind, Behr hopes the tune will inspire a solid foundation for future travels.
With a year without much balance and light, many are ready to move on from 2020 and hope for the year ahead — and Behr hoped to contribute to that sentiment with his color choice.
A neutral adjacent shade, Canyon Dusk stretches multiple design styles and is a practical choice for any interior or exterior design. The color complements pastels, jewels, and other neutrals, making it a great choice for any style from modern to traditional. It also pairs well with other colors from the Behr 2021 Color Trends collection, such as Smoky White or Broadway, a dusty black.
From experienced DIYers to first-time painters, it’s inspiring to see people truly seize opportunities to improve their spaces at a time when we’re all in our homes.
